How to Download Your Raw DNA from 23andMe

After getting your DNA test results from 23andMe, one of the things you should do is download your raw DNA data. This is both for safekeeping and because you may want to use that raw DNA on another genetic genealogy website.

 

Here are the steps for how to download your raw DNA file from 23andMe.

 

How to Download Raw DNA from 23andMe

1. Log in to your 23andMe account

2. From the homepage, click on the arrow next to your profile at the top of the page and select “Settings.”

3. Scroll to the “23andMe Data” section at the bottom of the page and click “View.”

4. Enter your birthdate and click “Confirm.”

5. Scroll down to the “Raw Data” section and click “Download Raw Data.”

6. Tick the box acknowledging that you understand the risks of uploading to third-party websites. Click “Submit Request.”

7. It will take a few days for your request to be processed, so watch your email inbox for an email from 23andMe:

8. Once you receive the email, click on the “Download Raw Data” link in the email.

9. You will be asked to enter your username and password, then your date of birth.

10. Click on the “Download raw genotyping data” button.

This will download a file to your device to wherever your internet downloads are usually stored on your device.
