Free video tutorial on DNA testing for family history by Diahan Southard, a leading genetic genealogy educators. Learn how DNA results deliver ethnicity and matches in this fresh, fun presentation.
Earlier this year, I was invited to Amsterdam to speak about DNA testing and family history as part of the big MyHeritage LIVE event. They asked me to give a basic—but fresh and fun—introduction to how DNA testing works on MyHeritage DNA. They recorded my class and it’s now part of their free MyHeritage Education series.
I’ve embedded the video below so you can watch it here, too. It runs less than 40 minutes and it’s a great intro (or reminder) to how DNA testing helps you learn about your heritage. Watch an updated explanation of how those ethnicity estimate are working these days (you’ll learn briefly about precision and recall), how the site identifies your DNA matches, and a quick intro to phasing and segments. And best of all, the general concepts apply across ALL testing companies, not just MyHeritage.
If you have DNA test results at MyHeritage, I recommend you purchase this freshly-updated, inexpensive quick guide to using MyHeritage DNA. It tells you everything you need to know—and nothing you don’t—about learning as much as you can from your MyHeritage DNA test. And guess what? Even if you don’t have DNA test results with MyHeritage, you can still transfer your DNA results to MyHeritage – for free! Even better, MyHeritage offers a 14-day free subsription trial, so you can try out all of their advanced DNA tools too.
Speaking of learning, I also recommend you read these (free!) resources that will take you deeper into the topics covered in the video tutorial.
